The Project

What we built and why

COLAB DXB is a premium digital agency with offices in Dubai and Los Angeles, serving clients including Honda, Dunlop, DAMAC, Disney, and Emaar. They needed a website that didn’t just describe their work it had to demonstrate it. Every scroll, every hover, every transition needed to feel intentional and premium.
We were brought in to design and develop the entire site from scratch โ€” no page builders, no pre-made themes. The brief was simple: build something that makes visitors feel like they’re already experiencing the quality COLAB delivers for their clients.

Design Process

How we approached it

The project started with a deep audit of COLAB's existing brand their dark, cinematic aesthetic, their Los Angeles roots, and their Dubai market positioning. We identified that the biggest opportunity was motion: most agency sites in the region were static and predictable.
We wireframed a scroll-driven experience where each section reveals itself with purpose. The hero uses a full-bleed video background with a smooth entrance animation, while service sections use horizontal reveal animations tied to the scroll position using GSAP's ScrollTrigger.
Typography was treated as a design element oversized headlines, tight tracking, and deliberate white space create a magazine-quality feel. The dark color palette with selective accent colors ensures the work (client videos and case studies) always remains the focal point.

Development

Build highlights

01
GSAP ScrollTrigger Animations

Every section entrance, parallax layer, and text reveal is orchestrated using GSAP ScrollTrigger creating a cinematic scroll experience that feels premium on every device.

02
Custom WordPress Theme

Zero page builders. The entire theme was hand-coded in PHP, with custom post types for services, case studies, and team members giving COLAB full editorial control without sacrificing performance.

03
Bootstrap 5 Grid System

Used Bootstrap's grid as a structural foundation, then extended it with custom CSS utilities to achieve the precise layout control the design demanded.

04
Video-Heavy Performance

The site features multiple background videos across sections. We implemented lazy loading, poster fallbacks, and WebP thumbnails to keep load times under 2 seconds despite the media-rich layout.

05
Responsive Animations

All GSAP animations are fully responsive ScrollTrigger instances are rebuilt on resize, and animation values scale proportionally across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

06
WP Rocket + CDN

Configured WP Rocket with object caching, CSS/JS minification, and Cloudflare CDN integration achieving a Lighthouse performance score above 95 on desktop.

Problem Solving

Challenges & solutions

01
Challenge

Balancing heavy animations with fast load times

The client wanted a premium, video-rich site with complex GSAP animations on every scroll. These are inherently heavy โ€” videos, large assets, and JavaScript-driven motion can easily push load times over 5 seconds.

01
Solution

Optimized asset delivery + deferred animation init

We implemented aggressive lazy loading for all videos and images, deferred non-critical JavaScript, and used IntersectionObserver to initialize GSAP timelines only when sections enter the viewport keeping the initial page load under 1.8 seconds.

02
Challenge

Maintaining animation fidelity on mobile

GSAP scroll animations that look stunning on desktop often break or feel janky on mobile due to different scroll behavior, touch events, and reduced GPU resources.

02
Solution

Mobile-first animation architecture

We built a separate animation configuration for mobile simplified transitions, reduced parallax depth, and replaced some scroll-triggered effects with CSS-only transitions. The experience feels premium on every device, even if the specific animations differ.

Outcome

Results & impact

COLAB DXB launched to immediate industry attention. The website became a sales tool in itself prospects would reference specific animations and sections during discovery calls, demonstrating that the site was doing its job of building trust and showcasing capability before a single word was spoken.
The agency reported a significant increase in inbound quality leads within the first 60 days post-launch, with prospects arriving pre-sold on COLAB's premium positioning. The site now serves as the flagship showcase of what Webvio delivers at the top end of custom WordPress development.

Takeaway

Final thoughts

COLAB DXB was one of the most technically demanding projects we've delivered and one of the most rewarding. It shows WordPress can compete with anything.

COLAB DXB was one of the most technically demanding projects we’ve delivered and one of the most rewarding. It proves that a WordPress site, built with the right architecture and animation strategy, can compete with anything built on headless or custom stacks. The site doesn’t just tell you COLAB is a premium agency. It shows you, from the first scroll.
